Saratoga Springs, NY — The Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) has released Version 5.0 of the BPI-2100 Home Performance Related Data Transfer (HPXML Transfer Standard), the industry’s common framework for exchanging home performance data across programs, contractors, software platforms, and other stakeholders.
“HPXML is a crucial tool for making home performance data more consistent, usable, and transferable across the industry,” said Katie Consales, Technical Director at BPI. “Version 5.0 reflects extensive input from the people and organizations that use HPXML in practice. These updates strengthen the standard, improve data consistency, and help ensure HPXML continues to evolve alongside the programs and technologies that rely on it.”
Developed through BPI’s ANSI-accredited standards development process, HPXML provides an open, technology-neutral method for consistent data transfer and is widely used to reduce administrative costs and improve accuracy and operational efficiency.
Version 5.0 represents a major update to the HPXML schema and incorporates new functionality, data consistency improvements, and refinements developed through stakeholder input and public review. Updates include new elements for cool roofs, wall and roof colors, and water fixture information; improvements to heat pump water heater data; and changes designed to ensure that values transmitted through HPXML are consistently associated with the appropriate units.
The release also reflects ongoing coordination with the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR), formerly the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, to maintain alignment between HPXML and the OpenStudio HPXML Modeling Toolkit.
HPXML is utilized by programs nationwide, including Arizona Public Service, Austin Energy, Efficiency Vermont, NYSERDA, Pacific Gas & Electric, Pearl Certification, PSEG Long Island, Salt River Project, San Diego Gas & Electric, SoCalGas, Southern California Edison, and United Illuminating.
