What's New in the Updated Certifications?

BPI Home Energy Professional certifications are reviewed every 5-7 years to stay current with industry best practices and ensure the exams reflect changes in job expectations, the updated job task analysis, and to improve accessibility.  Changes to the exams have been finalized and the updated exams will replace the ones currently available. Updated exams launched on February 28th, replacing the current versions.

Key changes include:

  • Certification cycle extended from 3 to 5 years.
  • Streamlined prerequisites for Energy Auditor certification.
  • New CEU requirements:
    • EA: 30 CEUs over 5 years (was 24 over 3 years)
    • QCI: 6 CEUs remains unchanged
    • 1 hour = 1 CEU standard applied across both.
  • Exams aligned with updated schemes and improved questions.
  • Revised gated items in field exams (must-pass tasks).
  • Exams now available in Spanish.

Anyone currently EA certified or who has already received approval to take the EA exams, does not need to reapply.  Their previous approval will still count for the new exams.

EA and QCI Pilot exam results are now available in the BPI portal for all candidates who participated in pilot testing.  Please login to your BPI portal to view your results.
