When we want to motivate someone, we often dangle a carrot to get more of what we want and raise a stick to eliminate what we don’t. We use statements that sound like threats or promises. “If you do this, then I’ll do that,” we say.

But does it work? Not really, and even when it does there are costs. People feel resentment when they are presented with sticks and carrots, and resentment does not breed productivity.

If you need a better way to motivate people, then this is the session for you. If you want to develop loyal, happy, and proud employees, you don’t want to miss this presentation.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn why traditional rewards and recognition don’t work well
• Learn the difference between engagement and motivation
• Learn why most approaches to increasing employee motivation are not based in scientific research
