The Building Performance Institute (BPI) is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Affordable Home Performance National Demonstration retrofit project in Pittsburgh, PA.  Information on the project is available at
http://www.homerevival.typepad.com/.  The theme is "affordable comfort" and the renovation project features system solutions that could work in the tens of millions of older homes across the country that need home performance upgrades.  BPI is supporting the project with outreach efforts into the manufacturing community to support the whole house approach to home performance improvement.
 
Affordable Comfort, Inc. is also sponsoring the project in conjunction with the national ACI Home Performance Conference in Pittsburgh, PA from April 7-11, 2008.  For information on this conference and the tours of the demonstration home, click hereThe home will be featured during the conference and thereafter through the consumer and trade media.  ACI will also publish the research results from the project.  The demonstration home is located just ten minutes from downtown Pittsburgh and is representative of tens of thousands of similar units built in the mid 1900's.  In addition to support for the demonstration through the conference, ACI is also coordinating the marketing and media opportunities for the project.
 

The builder for the project is William C. Asdal of Asdal Builders, LLC, a BPI Accredited Contractor from Chester, N.J.  Bill is also a BPI Certified Building Analyst and Envelope professional.  He is the 2006 Green Remodeler of the Year awarded at the National Green Building Conference, the 2000 National Remodeler of the Year, and was recently inducted into the NAHB National Remodeling Hall of Fame.

 

Qualified Remodeler magazine serves as the media sponsor for the project and will provide editorial coverage of the products and systems solutions provided in the project.

 

The home will be monitored by MaGrann Associates who has provided a comprehensive home assessment, baseline testing, analysis of previous energy bills, recommendations prioritized with cost estimates, field training of crews about how this job is different from standard practice, and pre-dry wall inspections.  MaGrann will also provide post-work field measurement and verification to ensure that the performance improvements have been achieved.
