GlobalThe Building Performance Institute (BPI) is pleased to announce a continued expansion in the number of affiliate organizations who are delivering home performance contractor training and BPI credentialing services across the country.  The following organizations have recently formalized affiliate agreements with BPI:
  • Energy Coordinating Agency-The Energy Coordinating Agency of Philadelphia, Inc. (ECA) is a private, non-profit corporation insuring that low and moderate income people have access to safe, affordable, and reliable sources of energy and water.  ECA helps people save energy and works to develop a sustainable energy future for the region.  ECA coordinates and provides energy services to thousands of households in the Philadelphia area every year. Together with its citywide network of Neighborhood Energy Centers (NEC's), ECA provides over 60,000 energy services to more than 35,000 households each year.
  • Steven Winter Associates, Inc.-Steven Winter Associates, Inc. (SWA) is a national leader in building performance training, technical assistance, policy, and regulatory issues.  SWA's staff includes more than 70 engineers, architects, and other trained building professionals.  SWA's clients across the U.S. depend on the firm's expertise in energy efficiency, building science, training, performance testing, and analysis to help make buildings more durable, safe, affordable, comfortable, and resource efficient.  SWA has worked with properties ranging from single-family homes to 17,000 unit developments to help developers, owners, and building personnel manage their properties to increase cash flow, reduce turnover, and improve building durability.

BPI affiliate organizations provide a series of services in local markets to support the BPI credentialing process for contracting companies and their key staff.  They deliver training to prepare candidates for BPI written and field practical examinations in the following areas for single family homes:  Building Analyst, Envelope, Heating, Air Conditioning/Heat Pump.  In multifamily buildings, they deliver training and prepare candidates for BPI written and field practical examinations in the following areas:  Multifamily Building Analyst, Multifamily Building Operator, and Multifamily Hydronic Heating System Designer.  They also proctor the BPI written and field exams for candidates seeking BPI certification.  Some of the BPI affiliates provide mentoring services for contracting companies who are seeking to get accredited by BPI.  The mentoring process allows the contractor to have a supervised assessment on their first few comprehensive home assessments.  Lastly, some affiliates are providing BPI with an independent, third-party quality assurance on the work of contractors in their market as part of BPI's Quality Assurance program it provides for its accredited contractors.

BPI's certification, accreditation, and quality assurance services are recognized by the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program, a collaborative national initiative co-sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy to bring about a systematic improvement to the performance of the nation's 120 million existing homes.

Organizations interested in obtaining BPI affiliate status and offering BPI credentialing services in their local market should contact BPI directly at 1-877-274-1274 (x106) or visit www.bpi.org and click on the Affiliates tab.
