Provide training for green collar jobs.

Teach the fundamentals of home performance evaluation and whole-home retrofit planning from the house-as-a-system approach.

Unprecedented federal, state and utility funding for energy efficiency retrofits and weatherization assistance programs has created an urgent need to train and certify more home performance retrofit professionals. BPI certification and the educational programs provided by independant training affiliate organizations are integral to these programs’ success.

Your organization can enjoy the financial rewards of providing training, proctoring exams, mentoring contractors and ensuring quality work, while still focusing on your primary business or mainstream curricula.

Training affiliates enjoy marketing support and discounts on diagnostic equipment, as well as more opportunities for sub-contracting and referrals. Community colleges that offer home performance training as part of their programs can attract new students, while also providing more options to existing pupils.

By helping to train and mentor highly skilled contractors, you help accelerate the goals of weatherization and incentive programs, reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil and improve the comfort, safety, durability and energy efficiency of our existing housing.

Developing curricula in any field is expensive, time consuming and requires expertise. As a training affiliate, you may choose to develop your own curricula using BPI Technical Standards and Testable Knowledge List as a guide. Alternatively, you may choose to use licensed curricula that have been developed by other organizations. The material covers the required knowledge candidates must have in order to obtain BPI certification. For more information, see Curriculum Resources.

These organizations’ coursework includes instructor presentations, student handouts, and written and field examination protocols. Several organizations provide train the trainer sessions that encompass every aspect of the home performance knowledge base.
